Personal Trainer

Under the direction and supervision of the Wellness Coordinator and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA, the Personal Trainer is responsible for guiding exercisers through proper use of the equipment, assisting members in making healthy lifestyle changes, and providing excellent member service resulting in member retention. The personal trainer will provide personal attention, support, and motivation to members on a one-on-one basis.

1. Monitors and motivates all Personal Training clients as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator, following all guidelines for this program.
2. Conducts equipment orientations, develops individual exercise programs, and provides initial and ongoing counseling for Personal Training clients.
3. Conducts fitness assessments as needed for clients.
4. Maintains proper paperwork and records for each assigned client.
5. Emphasizes safety and proper technique.
6. Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops as required.
7. Assists and encourages clients to participate in quarterly incentive challenges.
8. Improves professional growth through reading, workshops, and other training experiences.
9. Develops and fosters good relationships with program participants and members.
10. Upholds and exemplifies the principles of the YMCA.
11. Responsible for the adherence to all policies and procedures of the Hamilton Area YMCA.
12. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
14. Represents the Hamilton Area YMCA in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.

  • At least one (1) year of experience in the Health & Fitness field.
  • Must have experience and competency in member service and health and fitness.
  • Must possess a professional image, as well as personally display an excellent example of health and fitness.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a national personal training certification from the NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE with Y USA certification.
