Active Adults

At the Hamilton Area YMCA, we’re committed to making sure every member of our community has access to the resources they need to incorporate exercise into their day for a healthier, happier lifestyle.

That’s the concept behind our Active Older Adult (AOA) program.  These group classes are offered in fun, supportive formats designed especially to meet the needs of adults age 55 and over.

AOA group exercise classes include Aquafit, Aqua Yoga, Aqua Zumba, Chair Yoga, Cycling, Funky Fitness, Gentle Yoga, Light Weight Workout, Line Dancing, Pilates, Shape Up, Steppin' EZ, Strength Training, Tai Chi, and Zumba® Gold.

AOA instructional exercise classes include Novice & Intermediate Swim and beginner and advanced Tap Dancing.

Lots of AOA participants also look forward to our various special events and activities, which include day trips, holiday parties, guest speakers and other opportunities for learning, socializing and making new friends. We also offer a number of specialty programs, including AARP Smart Driver Course,
Art Workshop, Birthday Breakfast Club, Book Club, Drums Alive, Glee Club, Intro to Easy Piano,
Ukulele I & II, Yo-Chi Fusion, and Zumba® Chair.

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program

Class time: 60 minutes

This non-aerobic exercise program includes exercises to increase flexibility and range of motion and decrease pain and stiffness.

Adult Beginner Tap Dancing

Book Club

This group meets the first Thursday of every month from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. to discuss current and popular literature.

Glee Club

Numerous research studies have shown that singing can improve your mood and your physical health.  It’s also fun to use your voice to create music with others. No previous singing experience is required. Adults of all ages are welcome to participate.

Intro to Easy Piano

This program will introduce you to the basics of piano, using the easy chord and melody method.  Adults age 18 and over are welcome and will need to purchase an introductory piano book for the first class.  The book title is Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course  – Lesson Book (Level 1) and can be ordered online or purchased at a local music store.  Keyboards will be provided at the Y, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have one.  Practice between classes is recommended.

AARP Smart Driver Course

In this six-hour course, you will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road. Find out how to safely adjust your driving to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Upon course completion you will receive a certificate which may qualify you for a reduction in your auto insurance premiums. Two points will be deducted from your driving record if applicable.

This course is offered through Penn Medicine Princeton Health and takes place in Suite 100, conference rooms A & B at the JKR Branch of the Hamilton Area YMCA.

Fees: $20/$15 (AARP member)

Pickleball Open Play (ages 18+)

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping pong, and racquetball.  It is one of the fastest growing sports in America. It’s a low-impact game that’s easy to learn, great exercise, a great way to meet new people, and A LOT of fun!

There is no better way to explain the sport of Pickleball to someone other than letting them experience it for themselves. Each registered participant can bring a friend to try out 1 session for free.

Level of Play Definitions:

  • Open Play: Open to anyone. Everyone mixes and all styles of play welcome.
  • Instruction/Drills: For the Beginner(s) to learn the game; practice playing, scoring, moving on court, etc.
  • Advanced Play: Competitive style of play, usually by strong players who slam the ball to the opponent's court or smash the ball with a lot of force. Players need quick reaction time and solid movement/footing so as not to get hit by balls or to be more liable to trip and fall. People who play on Thursdays will expect all players to play aggressively. This includes being able to initiate and react to the strategic dink game.

There is a $5.00 drop-in fee per day.
