ACT!: Youth Weight Management

Created in partnership with Hamilton Pediatric Associates and funded in part by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, ACT! Actively Changing Together is an intense, 24-session program designed to provide young people between the ages of 8 - 14 with the tools needed to start on the path to healthy living. Developed by Y trainers and nutritionists, ACT! promotes healthier living by combining structured physical activity with lessons in nutrition for the entire family. ACT! is led by a certified personal trainer and licensed nutritionist.

First time ACT! participants and their families will receive a Facility Membership for the duration of the program.

ACT! Schedule of Offerings

Monday and Thursday      5:30 – 6:30 p.m.     8 - 11 years
Monday and Thursday      7:30 – 8:30 p.m.     12 - 14 years
Tuesday and Thursday     7:30 – 8:30 p.m.     *Nutrition Class

*As part of the new curriculum, a nutrition class will be held every other Tuesday. A schedule will be provided at the first session. The nutrition classes will be mandatory and a parent/guardian must be present.

Fee: $50 per participant

Delay the Disease: Parkinson’s Disease

This evidence based fitness program, led by certified Delay the Disease instructors, is designed to empower people with Parkinson’s disease by optimizing their physical function and helping to delay the progression of symptoms. Research in the area of Parkinson’s disease indicates that exercise has been shown to improve self-confidence and independence, decrease the risk of falls, minimize fatigue, reduce rigidity and improve mobility. The program is geared specifically to counteract the movement challenges experienced by people with Parkinson’s. Individuals with other neurological conditions are also welcome to join the class.

First time Delay the Disease participants will receive a Facility Membership for the duration of the program.

Diabetes Prevention Program

About one in three American adults - that’s 57 million people - have prediabetes. We are giving you the tools you need to reduce your diabetes risk and gain tools for healthy living through the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. The 12-month group-based program consists of 16 one-hour, weekly sessions, followed by monthly sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach who facilitates a small group of people with similar goals.  Topics discussed include healthy eating, increasing physical activity, reducing stress, problem solving and more.  Program goals include: lose 7% of your body weight and gradually increasing your physical activity to 150 minutes per week. Build a healthy lifestyle today by learning about healthy eating, physical activity and other behavior changes.   

First time Diabetes Prevention Program participants will receive a Facility Membership for the duration of the program.

Healthy Ways: Adult Weight Management Program

This program is a focused 8-week, 16-session progressive course designed to jump-start medically diagnosed obese adults on the road toward weight loss through healthy, active lifestyle change. To insure the quality of the program and its effectiveness, the program capacity is eight participants per session, per class. An application and screening process will be utilized at the point of intake to determine eligibility based on a series of factors including, but not limited to, BMI, Body fat percentage, certain body circumference measurements, and willingness of participants to commit to regular exercise and accountability through the use of food and exercise journaling.

The program will be led by certified personal trainers and a licensed nutritionist and will meet twice a week for the duration of the program. These sessions will focus on developing a healthy and appropriate exercise program for each participant and will include one-on-one consultation and follow up with a nutritionist. 

First time Healthy Ways participants will receive a Facility Membership for the duration of the program.

OneStep: Multiple Sclerosis

OneStep is a 12-week, 24-session course geared toward adults that have been medically diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The goal of One Step is to provide safe, therapeutic exercise that address the issues of fatigue, walking, weakness and depression and empower participants with emotional support through facilitated conversation in a controlled environment. One Step curriculum is supported by the National MS Society of New Jersey.

First time One Step participants receive a Facility Membership for the duration of the program.

THRIVE: Cancer Wellness Program

THRIVE (To Help Restore and Increase Vitality through Exercise) is a 12-week group personal training program designed for people who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from battling cancer.  With the guidance of specially trained personal trainers, participants build back muscle mass and muscular strength, increase flexibility and cardiovascular endurance, and improve functional ability. Participants are also offered the opportunity to try a sampling of group exercise classes within the supportive environment of the group.

First time THRIVE participants and their families receive a Facility membership for the duration of the program.
