Meghan Connolly
WITS Certified Personal Trainer
Certified Phlebotomist

Meghan has seen the results of a specific, targeted fitness routine in her own life.  There was a time when exercise did not play a major part of her life but she has come to see the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. "Nothing makes me happier than improving myself session by session and week by week - pushing myself hard and realizing my own limits," she says. As she progressed, she realized she is passionate about helping others unleash their potential. "Noticing results for myself motivates me to help others do the same." Meghan makes it a mission to engage those who are unsure or intimidated in the gym environment with her caring, supportive and motivating attitude. She loves the challenge of making members feel comfortable with her and their surroundings while still encouraging them to push and challenge themselves. Meghan takes great satisfaction in knowing she is making a difference: "I will do whatever it takes to have someone leave with a smile and feeling happy they asked me for help."

Rick Gilmartin
YMCA Certified Personal Trainer
Fitness/Group Exercise Instructor

As long as he can remember, Rick has been active and fit.  Whether it was running, cycling or playing sports including football, hockey, baseball and basketball, Rick was on the move.  He gravitated to strength training in order to enhance these pursuits. Rick served as a United States Marine infantryman during Vietnam.  According to military fitness expert Stew Smith, "The habits of self-discipline required to gain and maintain a high level of physical fitness are inherent to the Marine Corps way of life and must be a part of the character of every Marine."  Since his time in the service, Rick has continued to find ways to challenge himself physically both in and outside of the gym.  Maintaining his active lifestyle was a primary factor in Rick's transition into personal training and group exercise.  "The older I got," he says, "the more I realized (physical fitness) wasn't going to happen by itself."  Rick enjoys exercise and carries that enthusiasm into his work with clients. In his spare time, Rick enjoys working out and is an avid sports enthusiast. Rick's training specialties include weight management, strength training, core and stability ball work and group exercise.  Rick's Certifications include specific training for those with Parkinson's Disease.

Brian Mulvan
WITS Certified Personal Trainer

Brian has always enjoyed sports such as soccer and boxing and has long appreciated the benefits of cross training to build the strength and endurance necessary to succeed. After his children were born, he realized the essential role a balanced, methodical and efficient workout plays in fitting a successful wellness routine in to his busy life. Channeling knowledge, friendliness and motivational skills into a career with opportunities to inspire others as a personal trainer was a natural step. Brian is centrally concerned with the positive effect he has on others and, as a trainer this means providing experienced, empathetic training geared to producing the desired result for each member he trains. From brand new beginners to work-out veterans, Brian enjoys challenging clients with a variety of goals and abilities. He especially enjoys training older adults and youth as they target diverse wellness or athletic goals.  As an added bonus, many members agree that Brian's boxing workouts are a fun, high-energy way to build strength and endurance and gain confidence.

Janice Nastasi
WITS Certified Personal Trainer

As a child, Janice recalls running and exercising with her older sister. She stopped regular exercise for a time but returned to a more active lifestyle as an adult.  She says, "I realized how good I felt physically after (a workout) and also mentally and emotionally. There's a powerful connection between exercise and a positive, happy outlook." More recently, Janice has found she enjoys training for and competing in obstacle races which, she notes, "really get my competitive nature fired up and spur me on to get even more fit!"  Janice utilizes a solid understanding of strength training coupled with an "old school" approach to weight lifting that emphasizes effective strategies proven to produce results. Additionally, she asks each client what exercises he or she enjoys and builds their exercise program around that. "If they aren't enjoying themselves, they're less apt to stick with it." Janice specializes in strength training and women's fitness.  While she enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities she especially likes training people her own age, noting that she can relate to the unique challenges people face when they hit 40.  Janice is actively involved in training special populations through the YMCA's Healthy Living programs providing support for those learning to exercise with MS, Parkinson's Disease, diabetes and arthritis.

Arlene Olla
NASM Certified Personal Trainer
BS University of Colorado, Boulder
Healthy Living Program Participants
Adaptive Populations

Arlene has spent many years as a writer in the health care field focusing on the pharmaceutical industry and has also worked as an editor on a number of projects, including a book devoted to a martial arts training. That's something she is very familiar with, having earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a second one through the Superfoot (Bill Wallace) system. Physical fitness has been part her life and even though cancer put some of her activities on hold temporarily, she attributes regular exercise with helping her get back to what she loves. “The days, weeks and months following cancer treatment can be difficult,” she says. “Chemotherapy, radiation, surgery or any combination, takes its toll. All of us who have gone through cancer want to get back to our 'normal', pre-treatment condition as quickly as possible, but bouncing back takes time. “As a founding participant in the THRIVE program, I have first-hand experience of the benefits that can result from a focused strength, endurance and conditioning program. I've always been active and tried to stay active through my surgeries and treatments for cancer, but this focused approach made all the difference and made it possible for me to move to the next level in my fitness training. In fact, it made such an impression on me that I was motivated to obtain my personal training cert so that I can share with others -- not just cancer patients -- the exceptional and life-changing benefits of fitness.”
