Training/Adult Education

Whether your interest is personal or professional, the Hamilton Area YMCA has a safety course to meet your needs! We offer both certification and non-certification courses through the YMCA, American Heart Association and the American Red Cross.

Please register at least one week prior to the start of a class to ensure delivery time for materials. A Hamilton Area YMCA membership is not required for participation in these programs. Certification classes must have a minimum of three participants for the class to be held. Registration must be completed via phone or in person at the Membership Service Desk.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (ages 15+)

This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard. CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, and first aid are included in this comprehensive training. Participants must complete prerequisite skills on their first day, including 300 yards of freestyle and breaststroke and timed diving brick retrieval.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification (with Review)

This course is for current American Red Cross Lifeguards who need a little refresher before taking their final skills scenario and written exam. Participants must bring their bathing suits as well as possess and present on the first day of class, current certification that would expire after the date of the class along with picture identification. (Participants must bring with them a pocket mask) Dial ext. 128

American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen

This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a victim of a breathing emergency using various breathing devices: resuscitation masks, bag-valve mask resuscitators (BVMS) and emergency oxygen. Prerequisite: CPR/AED professional certification and manual.

American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid

The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
