Camp Nurse

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the direction and supervision of the Sawmill Camp Director and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Hamilton Area YMCA, the Sawmill Camp Nurse is an integral part of the preparation and execution of the camps health system at the Sawmill Branch. The job is responsible for the maintenance of first aid supplies and kits, preparation and distribution of allergy lists for each camp as well as ensuring camper’s medication is current with the assistance of the Camp Director. The Camp Nurse will provide supervision and training staff in medical related responses and responding to all emergencies that arise within the camp program and any other areas listed under the essential functions. He/she will also have proven ability to relate to people. The Sawmill Camp Nurse will complete all other duties and projects as assigned or required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains and renews any licensing requirements and/or certifications for a CPR, First Aid and AED.
  • Attends the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention/Blood Bourne Pathogen Training offered during camp training – Mandatory for all staff (New and Returning).
  • Assists the Sawmill Camp and Program Director in developing allergy lists and reviewing proper medical procedures and prevention.
  • Oversees the first aid supply inventory and assists in ordering additional supplies within the camp budget.
  • Coordinates with the Camp Directors with labeling and tracking of all medications for each camper to ensure no medication is expired. All expired medication must be returned to the parent/guardian and adherence to standard operating procedure for proper disposal of expired medication must be followed.
  • Reviews all medical authorization forms on the day they are submitted by the parent and all individual medical log books on a weekly basis.
  • Knowledge of allergic conditions of campers and the ability to respond appropriately.
  • Completes all follow-up forms on incident reports within 24 hours of submission or as otherwise stated in the standard operating procedures.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
  • Represents the Hamilton Area YMCA in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.

 

 

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Minimum of two (2) years professional experience SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of YMCA Policies
  • Excellent communication skills CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must possess all CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications
  • Must possess all Current Nursing Licensure requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff, members, children, and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. Abilityto perceive the nature of sounds by ear; ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds; ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling. Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Exposure to high levels of noise and various environmental conditions.

Acquire and maintain the following certifications:

  • CPR/AED/FirstAidobtained through the American Red Cross(valid2years)
  • CARI/CHRI
  • Mandated Reporter Training(valid5years)
  • Additional training and development specific to your role as reference in onboarding packet.

Hours: Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
