Cardiac Rehab Phase III Added to Healthy Living Programs

Article from blog.nj.com:

We launched a suite of Healthy Living Programs one year ago in an effort to combat a variety of chronic diseases plaguing our community. Since then, hundreds of individuals have reported positive results, leading to a push from the organization to expand our offerings. The next program to be added: Cardiac Rehab Phase III.

Developed in consultation with Mercer Bucks Cardiology, Cardiac Rehab is a 12-week program designed to help people who have experienced a cardiac event or undergone cardiac surgery progress on the path to full recovery. Cardiac Rehab Phase III focuses on educating participants about controlling their cardiac condition, identifying and modifying risk factors, and returning the participant to a full and happy life post-event.

Like Cardiac Rehab Phase III, all of our Healthy Living Programs were created in response to identified community needs, and all programs were created in partnership with experts in the community. Under the guidance of the Hamilton Area YMCA's Healthy Living Council, a group of healthcare experts and practitioners from across Mercer County, the Y has become a leader in chronic disease prevention.

We currently offer the following Healthy Living Programs:

  • THRIVE Cancer Wellness
  • Delay the Disease: Parkinson's Program
  • OneStep: Multiple Sclerosis
  • ACT! Youth Weight Management
  • Healthy Ways Adult Weight Management
  • YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program
  • Cardiac Rehab Phase III

"Our Healthy Living Programs have made a real impact on the lives of individuals living with chronic disease in our community," said Hamilton Area YMCA Director of Healthy Living Bethann Wittig. "It's really incredible to see how people with cancer, MS, Parkinson's or pre-diabetes are taking charge of their health and making positive changes."

Healthy Living Programs at the Hamilton Area YMCA have made a real impact on the lives of individuals living with chronic disease.

To ensure participants are able to fully integrate what they are learning into their daily lives, all Healthy Living Program participants receive a complimentary membership to the Hamilton Area YMCA for the duration of the program. This helps to ensure that the tools and strategies that are learned during program sessions become life-long habits. Thanks to the generosity of donors in the community, the Y is able to offer all of its Healthy Living Programs at low or no cost to participants.

"We recognize that chronic disease often comes with financial challenges — co-pays, deductibles and missed days of work," said Director of Corporate Communications & Grants Gretchen DiMarco. "Because of the high staff-to-participant ratio for each class, these programs would likely not be affordable to many of our participants without the help of our donors. We are grateful to the individuals and businesses in the community that have provided critical funds to keep these programs running."

The summer session of Healthy Living Programs will begin on July 11. For more information, visit www.hamiltonymca.org.
