Wellness Coach

Under the direction and supervision of the Wellness Coordinator and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA, the Wellness Coach is responsible for guiding exercisers through proper use of the equipment, assisting members in making healthy lifestyle changes, and providing excellent member service resulting in member retention. The Wellness Coach will provide personal attention, support, and motivation to members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Warmly greets members with a smile and eye contact, anticipates members’ needs, and addresses members by name.
2. Understands, discusses, and promotes all YMCA programs.
3. Refers members to the correct programs that will meet their needs (e.g., Coach Approach, Personal Training, Nutrition, etc.).
4. Conducts equipment orientations, develops basic individual exercise programs, and provides initial and ongoing counseling for YMCA members.
5. Emphasizes safety and proper technique to all members.
6. Ensures safe and effective use of all wellness center equipment.
7. Notifies Wellness Coordinator and follows procedures for equipment maintenance and/or repairs.
8. Attends staff meetings as required.
9. Assists and encourages members to participate in quarterly incentive challenges.
10. Improves professional growth through reading, workshops and other training experiences.
11. Develops and fosters good relationships with program participants and members.
12. Upholds and exemplifies the principles of the YMCA.
13. Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Hamilton Area YMCA.
14. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
16. Represents the Hamilton Area YMCA in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.

QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in member service, health and fitness, and organizational skills.
B. SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent communication skills.
C. CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must possess and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Required to possess and maintain a national personal training certification from the NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE with Y USA certification.
