Hamilton Area YMCA Awarded Funds For Recreational Sports

Mercer County Department of Human Services recently awarded $22,332 to The Hamilton Area YMCA for recreational sports for people with disabilities for the 2014-2016 calendar years.  This award will benefit the Y’s S.K.O.R. sports recreation program which promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and achieving personal goals.

The Hamilton Area YMCA S.K.O.R. (Special Kids Organized Recreation) Program offers a variety of year-round sport, instructional, and social programs that are designed to meet the individual needs of each participant between the ages of 5 and 35.  The YMCA’s S.K.O.R. Program is vital to the community because it addresses a need for individuals with disabilities as identified by Hamilton Township and Mercer County as a whole.

This is the second time the Hamilton Area YMCA has received funding from the County for this purpose.  Due to the previous funding, and the acknowledgement of the S.K.O.R. Program by the Mercer County Office of Disabled, the Y has realized much success with the recreation program as well as the Afterschool Enrichment classes, which have tripled in size.
